What are you obsessed about??

Oftentimes the word "obsession" gets a negative connotation. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines Obsession in several different ways, lets examine two of its definitions.

1. A state in which someone thinks about someone or something constantly or frequently especially in a way that is not normal.

2. An activity that someone is very interested in or spends a lot of time doing.

With this definitions, would you say obsession is a critical ingredient in attaining massive success in anything in life?

Let's examine three Greatest Of All Time (GOATs) in their craft and see obsession was instrumental in them attaining success in their craft.

1. Arnold Swazzeneger: www.bodybuilding.com, referred to Arnold as obsessed with body perfection. Even other body building super stars recognizes that the real training in the gym does not begin until Arnold arrives. Arnold once mentioned in the movie "pumping iron" that his father, his greatest hero died during his training for a body building contest, and he refused to go to his father's funeral so that he would not get distracted from his training. Nothing could come between him and his success. He later recanted that statement, and said his father died before the contest, but nonetheless, even his father's funeral would not have stopped him from his focus on success. Later in life, he discussed that he has often channeled this same obsession and focus to other areas in his life including becoming the Governor of California and a Hollywood superstar.

2. Barack Obama: President Obama was so focused on serving the public that he turned down several job opportunities offering him over a million dollars right out of law school, and chose to be a community organizer working for paltry. Rumors had it that he was willing and he sacrificed everything to be successful and to serve the public. He often spent his family's personal savings on failed political campaigns, and helping the poor. This naturally aggravated his wife because his obsession and single-minded focus was putting their family's financial security in danger, but his obsessive focus on success finally led him to the presidency.

3. Steve Jobs: www.gizmag.com described Steve Jobs' most disruptive trait has his obsession with the consumer's experience. Steve Jobs was so obsessed with the quality of the customer's experience that despite his charming and charismatic personality, many people feared and hated him because of his intolerance for mediocrity. He was obsessed with success and the perfect customer experience.

The list of the GOATs that were obsessed with a focus are limitless: Read about Oprah Winfrey, Thomas Edison, Harry Houdini, Muhammadu Buhari, Michael Jordan, The wright brothers, Henry Ford etc.
